Training and workshop “sustainability in practice”

First a training presented permaculture were held on 19th of March 2011 in Piskavica. It was led by Ivan Gregov, member of the Croation Institute of permaculture from Zagreb.

It included theoretical and practical parts. The first part presented the best practices and experiences covering the fields of domestic life, energy, agriculture, construction and common organization. After this the second part took place in a rural farm of Piskavica. Here participants, led by the lecturer, worked on the construction of a compost box. This way participants had the opportunity to see and experience by themselves the construction and operation method, and got involved in the development of good practices for the disposal of organic waste.

In spite of poor weather conditions, the training and workshop was attended by 22 participants. The discussions following the activity showed a great interest in sustainable solutions that can be applied in the households and in the community (herbal purifier, composting, alternative energies, organic food and eco-construction)

With more participants than expected (22 instead of 15), we observe that this subject developed beyond expectations the interest of the local community for the project.
