7th Kozara ethno 2011

In Piskavica and Banja Luka was held the 7th kozarski ethno festival where participated about 350 artists from 6 European countries. Presentation of the cultural heritage of European regions, cultural diversity of dances, songs, musics, costumes, cuisine and handicrafts brightened up Banja Luka during 3 days.

The 7th Festival Kozarski ethno began on the 1st of July in Piskavica, where were exhibited at the15 booths of the ethnic markets, during 3 days, goods from the festival guests and local manufacturers from Kozara and Potkozarje. In  the ethno house of Piskavica opened at  20:15 a thematic exhibition on the local custom "čarojice", set by the ethnologist Dr. Irena Medar. After a scenic view of the custom "čarojice," carried out by the members of KUD "Piskavica", the festival was officially opened by the Mayor of Banja Luka, Mr. Dragoljub Davidovic. During the evening the festival presented traditional dances of the eight groups from Italy, Serbia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Macedonia and Bosnia. During the break the winners of the “best garden in Piskavica” award have been announced, and a couple from KUD "Kolovit" from Gradiska was elected the most beautiful couple in traditional costume. Due to poor weather conditions the parade with all participants could not take place. This first day of festival was attended by nearly 2000 visitors.

The second festival day began with a sporting contest in the traditional discipline of "stone's throw from the shoulder", which gathered 25 participants among whom were foreign guests of the festival. The first place with a length of 8.67 m was taken by the local Dragan Kremenovic. The second place was won by the local Novak Kukić with a length of 8.25 m, while third place went to a member of the folklore group "Dragatuš" from Slovenia with 7.78 m. The traditional custom of "Čarojice" was performed again, then started the festival of original songs and music which showed 9 groups from 6 European countries. The competition part of the concert consisted of 4 female and 6 male native singing groups from Kozara and Potkozarje . The winner of the Festival of original songs (ojkace) in the men's group was “Borino Jato” from Rakelići, and the singing group KUD "Piskavica" won for women. The jury consisted of the ethnomusicologist Pr. Dimitrije Golemović, ethnomusicologist and ethnochoreologist Dr. Olivera Vasic and Mr. Milorad Kenjalović, ethnomusicologist. The second day of the festival in Piskavica was attended by about 3000 visitors.

Kozarski ethno moved during the third day of the festival and conveyed the atmosphere of Piskavica in the center of Banja Luka. The program began with a parade of all participants of the Festival through the main pedestrian zone of the city, from the National Theatre of RS to the Krajina Square. On the final evening of the festival, a numerous audience came at the Krajina Square, where the groups presented a combined program of traditional dances, songs and playing. The ethnic market has caused a great attention from the visitors in Banja Luka , especially the promotional stand of KUD "Piskavica" with traditional local gastronomy. After the performances the Festival has been closed by the director of the  Tourist Organization of Banja Luka Mr. Ostoja Barasin.

The media coverage of the festival was realized by the Radio Television of Republika Srpska, with Ms. Adriana Popovic as program manager.
